How we count recommendations

When a listing says “Recommended by 7 neighbors”, it means seven different people recommended that business: in a local Facebook group, where someone asked who to call and they answered with this business, or here on JaxSquare, with “I recommend this business”. When both, the listing shows how many came from each.

What counts

  • Each person once, however many times they recommended the same business.
  • Recommendations in the local groups we read, such as RiverTown’s.
  • On JaxSquare, only once the person confirms from their email, one per email per business. Owners can’t recommend their own.
  • Each recommendation counts, for one year, from when it was made.
  • Not a business recommending itself, and not a post that only mentions it.

What we show

  • The count once 2 or more people have recommended a business.
  • “Highly recommended” once 5 or more have.
  • Nobody can pay for either, and they don’t change where a business appears in search.

What we keep

A count, not a list of people. We don’t store who recommended a business, or their email, only a scrambled code that lets us count each person once. The link in the confirmation email removes yours at any time.
